The Foundation

The "ZAKI - Afghan Children Foundation" is a non-profit association under public law. It was founded on December 13th, 2021 in Innsbruck by Zahir Shah and is based in Fulpmes, Tirol, Austria 🇦🇹 .

The founding idea

Zahir Shah is from Nangarhar province in Afghanistan. His life so far has been marked by suffering and displacement. Even as a child, his parents had to flee to Peshawar/Pakistan with the whole family. Here he spent much of his childhood. After his return to Afghanistan, he lived in Nangarhar until he fled again in 2015. Zahir has been very well received in Austria thanks to the support of many people, but also because of his own absolutely positive and open attitude. His aim is therefore to take the happy turns in his life as an opportunity to pass on these experiences. The most important motivation here are his thoughts about his homeland and their children, and the associated hope that these children can be put in a position through school and education to build a better future for Afghanistan.

The purpose of the association

In Afghanistan there is only an absolutely inadequate state-sponsored education system, in which girls are also very disadvantaged. For this reason it is necessary to offer school education within the framework of private initiatives.

The purpose of the association is therefore to give children, especially girls from precarious financial circumstances and orphans, access to a basic school education. We provide school fees, education materials and school uniforms for this purpose.

The annual financial outlay is USD 100 per year for a child (boy or girl) aged 6-15 years. In addition, we support the construction of the school infrastructure.

Our campaign started in May 2021. To day (May 2022) 43 boys and girls have been able to attend a school in Nangarhar, Afghanistan. Our local cooperation partners are the Farooq Rahimzai Private School in Jalalabad and the Hilah Private School.
